CHAPTER 14

“Michelle, wake up. The president is about to address the country about the discovery and you guys’ mission.”

“For real, John? Right now?”

“Yes, babes! Now get up.”

John turned on the lystal lens in the bedroom as the president began his speech.

“Good afternoon. This announcement is very important so whatever you all are doing, can you please stop? I need your undivided attention. First off, I would like to say that this announcement is airing on every communication device around the world, and I want everyone to pay very close attention to what I’m about to say. About 5 years ago, we received a strange signal through the Arecibo radio telescope. We didn’t think much of it because we had received thousands of signals prior to that one. A year later, we received another signal from the same location, but it was even stronger, and this time, we paid very close attention. This signal was the most powerful signal we had ever received so we decided to aim the orbiting Kepler-10 toward the signal, and what we found blew us all away. People of the world, life-forms have been detected outside of our solar system.”

The media and all the news anchors around the world were stunned. John and Michelle suddenly heard chaos going on in their neighborhood. The news channels quickly showed different locations in the world where riots broke out. People began breaking in businesses and looting them. Suddenly, the world went chaotic.

The president continued. “People, I need everyone to be on their best behavior. We have planned a manned space mission which will launch tomorrow to go visit this alien life-form. Citizens of the country, the crew needs your full support, so let’s support them as they take on this daunting task.”

“Michelle, this is not going to be good. The president is going to have to call in the National Guard to protect you all. They will have to keep a close watch on the liftoff of the Hysperion.”

“John, don’t worry. We’ll be fine. We totally prepared for this day. No one will be able to locate the ship. The launch will only be broadcasted via SS connections.”

“What a relief. I was starting to get concerned,” he said.

“We’re fine, baby, now turn off that lens and call my parents over so that we can enjoy one another’s company. John, are your mom and dad coming over?”

“I’m sorry. They won’t be able to make it because they didn’t know you would be home in order to plan a flight.”

“John, it’s my fault. I didn’t know until the last minute.”

“Babes, it’s not your fault, and they’re not mad. My parents absolutely love you. They talk about you nonstop.”

“I love them too, John. What about my mom and dad?”

“They’ll be here around three o’clock, so let’s get dressed.”

Michelle and her husband got dressed and discussed dinner possibilities. Her mom and dad finally made it over, and they all went out to dinner at Michelle’s favorite restaurant, Bollu’s.

“Honey, did your mom tell you about our chaotic drive to your house?”

“No, Dad.
